Match Report Tyne & Wear All Stars 1 v Redheugh Reds 3

The beginning of the second half of the season commenced with Redheugh Reds playing the Tyne & Wear All Stars. The game was played in gusty conditions and the All Stars started as the brighter side, defending well and catching Redheugh on the break on a number of occasions. Only sturdy defending from Brooke and Elliott and a string of outstanding saves from Sam kept Redheugh in the game. Another quick break saw the All Stars catch the Redheugh midfield push too far up field and a good strike saw Sam beaten leaving Redheugh a goal down halfway through the first half. Redheugh battled on through to half time without conceding again, but struggled to create any good chances.

The second half started with the Redheugh midfield finally getting to grips with their opponents, Taylor winning more balls in the centre of the park and Charlie and Matthew restricting the space to the All Star wingers. This improved midfield display finally allowed Redheugh to move the ball quickly in to their striker Zak who used his pace to trouble the All Stars defence. This mounting pressure finally paid off early in the second half when some good passing saw Zak play through the centre of the defence and a good run was completed with a decisive finish which put Redheugh back on level terms. Redheugh continued to press and Zak and the midfield started to put together some impressive passing moves which increasingly caused the opposition problems. It was one of these moves which resulted in a second for Zak and put the Reds ahead for the first time in the game. The game continued to flow from end to end with the All Stars number 6 continuing to cause the Reds problems, but firm defending from Elliott, Brooke and Sam restricted the opposition to half chances.

With 5 minutes to go another flowing move down the Reds right resulted in a looping shot from Luca evading both the goalkeeper and the defender on the line to land just inside the post for the Reds third.

A well deserved but hard fought 3-1 win for the Reds.
