How come South Africa isn't a great soccer power in Africa?

South Africa is considered to be one of the best soccer nations in Africa, but not the best. This is due to the country's unique history and its lack of success in the international arena. Additionally, the country's financial resources are limited and these restrictions have hampered its ability to compete at the highest levels. As a result, South Africa is not a great soccer power in Africa, but it is still a formidable opponent within the continent.
